effective communication boosts employee engagement

effective communication boosts employee engagementBecoming an efficient leader within your company takes great tactics, and more importantly great employee communication. A lot of managers and supervisors fail to use effective communication that properly portrays the message they need to get across. This leads to misunderstandings and under-performance. In order to get the most out of each and every employee, you can use the following communication techniques within your organization.

Make Messages Simple, Direct and Repetitive

It seems like this would be a no brainer, but you would be surprised how many managers fail to use employee communication that is easy to understand and direct. The key to effective communication is to use language that clearly states what your expectations are. One way to reinforce this is to use repetitive, yet simple messages. Simply stating your expectations one time won’t always sink into the minds of employees. So regularly reinforcing your message is crucial. An example of this would be to have monthly meetings that enable you to track the progress of your employees. It’s also good to acknowledge the employees that are meeting your expectations. Make sure to recognize those employees and state what they’re doing well. This will show other employees what was done right and it may push them to do a great job as well. By doing this regularly, it will act as a reminder of what you’re looking for from them.

Be Specific and Clear

When stating the expectations you have of your employees, it’s important to explain who, what and how. Effective communication requires that you use employee communications that are clear and specific. Employees in your company should always be on the same page, and to accomplish this, you will have to ensure the message you’re sending out is clear. It’s necessary to clarify the roles, processes and outcomes that are required to bring the company’s vision to reality.

Create a Culture That Resonates Your Company’s Message

If the environment in your company fails to match the expected behaviors of your employees, then it will make it nearly impossible for them to do their job. For instance, if you’re asking your employees to take chances, there should be a reward system that celebrates them when they do. Of course, there also has to be room and tolerance for failure amid that experimentation; otherwise no one is going to risk stepping outside of the box.

Establish a Personal Relationship with Employees

A lot of companies make the mistake of treating their employees like just another number. Get to know their name and personality. Learn what motivates them and gives them energy. Find out what challenges they’re having.

All these areas can help you be a better leader to your team of employees. Effective communication is a crucial contributor to the success of any company. Great leadership is something that has to be honed, and with these tips, you can help take the right steps towards better employee communication, which will help you get the most out of your workers.
